Steven’s Blog

Good Luck Future Huskies!

Posted in Uncategorized by steven on the May 9th, 2008

This is my final blog. It has been a privilege for me to chronicle my antics this year. I hope those of you who chose to read the blogs got a good idea of life as a UConn Husky. To those of you who will be future students next year I wish you the best of luck! It is my hope that you will find attending UConn both exciting, challenging (in a good way), and rewarding in all aspects of your life.

My advice: MAKE A DIFFERENCE. There are so many paths you can take here at UConn and life in general. It is important to make a difference wherever you go. As a University of Connecticut student you can better this community. Whether your efforts are large or small, noticed or unnoticed, appreciated or unappreciated, every positive act makes a difference that will leave this University a better place than when you arrived.

If any future students have questions about attending UConn feel free to e-mail me at steven.bourque@uconn.edu. Thank you to everyone who has followed along with my blogs (be it 3 or 30 or 300 people).

I wish everyone a wonderful summer and a happy life!

Choir Banquet

Posted in My Friends, Fun Stuff by steven on the May 5th, 2008

On Saturday night I attended the annual Choir Banquet. Planning it also happened to be my last task as President of the Choir Club. There were over seventy people who went and everyone seemed to have a great time. The banquet was at the Nathan Hale Inn which is right on campus. We also used the evening to honor our choir director who is retiring. During the choir superlatives section I was honored to win “Nicest” and “Dr. DeFotis’ Pet” (aka Teacher’s Pet). An exciting moment happened when the UConn Police stopped by to ask our DJ to lower the jams because it was too loud. Overall, good times were had by all. It was a great way to relax before finals!

A Future in Politics

Posted in Student Life by steven on the May 4th, 2008

While I was heavily involved in student government in high school and my interest in politics has grown exponentially this year with the ongoing elections, I had never given serious thought to running for the UConn Undergraduate Student Government. You can imagine my surprise then when I checked my e-mail and found out I had been elected as the Senator for the School of Fine Arts. Upon further exploring I found out that no one ran from the SFA (fine arts kids rarely want to leave the comforts of their artsy environment) and a few fine arts students had submitted me as a write-on candidate. I decided to give it a try and attend the first senate meeting. I quite enjoyed dressing up and the structure of the senate meetings. It is also exciting to vote on things! I am looking forward to learning more about my new position over the summer and hopefully getting more involved in my senate position in the fall!
