I happened to come across an image of this painting by Helen Frankenthaler, an inductee in the Connecticut Women’s Hall of Fame, shortly after I was reading the program for UConn’s 2009 Outstanding Senior Women Academic Achievement Awards Ceremony which was held on May 8, just before Commencement. I had wanted to attend the Ceremony but had to be on a conference call instead. But I do want to recognize the seniors honored at this year’s event, and I thought that the image of this magnificent painting could serve here as a kind of celebratory greeting card.
Our annual Outstanding Senior Women Ceremony is cosponsored by the Provost’s Commission on the Status of Women, the UConn Alumni Association, and the UConn Women’s Center. The Provost’s Commission is charged with leadership in removing barriers at UConn to women’s academic and career success. This year’s Outstanding Senior Women are:
